The problem
Why car lease mileage is so easy to lose track of
You sign for a number — 30,000 miles, 36,000, 45,000 — and then nothing counts it. Your dashboard shows total miles, not lease miles. Nobody tells you at the halfway point whether you're fine. The first real reckoning is at return day, and by then every mile is already driven.
The math is unforgiving because overage is charged by the mile. At 25 cents a mile, being 4,000 over is a thousand dollars. And it rarely happens dramatically — it's a longer commute for a few months, or one summer of driving, spread thin enough that nobody notices.
Catching it at month eight means driving slightly less. Catching it at month thirty-four means writing a check.

A miles-per-day number you can actually use
"You're 3,733 miles under" doesn't tell you whether to take the scenic route. So LeasePace divides what's left by the days you have left and gives you one number: drive this much today and you finish on pace.
Your recent average sits beside it. If the budget is 46 and you're averaging 28, you've got room. If it's the other way round, you know now rather than in a year.
See the bill before it exists

Fair questions
Can you trust a projection from an app?
Only if it tells you when it doesn't know — so LeasePace does. Ask it for a projection on day one and it says "Check back after your first day." Ask too early and it says "Unlocks after 7 days or 2 readings." It would rather show you nothing than a confident number built from a single data point.
There's also a screen called "How these numbers are calculated", because a figure you can't interrogate is a figure you won't act on. Every number on the dashboard comes from readings you entered and terms you typed in — there's nothing else in there.
LeasePace is a tracking aid, not a substitute for your lease agreement. Check your contract for its mileage allowance and overage rate, and treat the projection as an estimate based on your driving so far.
